But the magazine's 2012 list (n.排行榜) of the world's most powerful (adj.有權力的) people also features (v.包括重要的人或物) folks (n.人們) who might raise an eyebrow or two (v.揚起眉毛（表示驚訝）): a Mexican (adj.墨西哥的) drug baron (n.工商業巨頭), and the pudgy(adj.微胖的)-faced young leader of North Korea (n.北韓).
For the second year in a row (adv.連續地), President Barack Obama (n.奧巴馬) led the ranking. The silver medal (n.獎牌) of power went to Merkel. Third place went to Russian (adj.俄羅斯的) President Vladimir Putin (n.普京).
Forbes said it assembled (v.編纂) the list using four criteria (n.準則): power over lots of people, financial (adj.財政的) resources (n.資源) controlled, whether the person has power in various spheres (n.領域) of life, and whether that person actively (adv.積極地) uses their power.
Microsoft (n.微軟) founder Bill Gates (n.蓋茨) was fourth, while (conj.而) Pope Benedict XVI, leader of the world's 1.2 billion (n.十億) Catholics (n.天主教徒), ranked (v.排名) fifth.
