You and your family take your luggage in a trolley over to the Customs Office. There you see many other people waiting. They are probably landing as immigrants, too. You have your passports, immigration papers and customs declaration cards ready. When your turn comes up, you take your family into the Customs Inspection Room.
A: May I please see your papers? Are you together?
B: Yes. Here are our passports, immigration papers, Customs Declaration Cards, and a list of things we are bringing into Canada.
A: Are you having anything shipped over later?
B: Yes, we have a list here prepared by our shipping agent.
A: Ah, you've made it very easy for me. Let me go over your lists. What's the total value of the personal effects and household items you're bringing into Canada?
B: About HK$130,000.
A: How much is that in Canadian dollars?
B: Approximately $20,000 Canadian.
A: Your lists show that you're bringing in about $6,000s worth today, and about $14,000s worth later. Is that right?
B: Yes.
A: I'll date and stamp these papers now. Hold on to them. You'll need them for customs clearance when your shipment arrives here.
