( 2011-08-05 )

The next chief executive (n.行政長官、特首) must be "an iconic (adj.標誌(性)的) person" who is widely accepted by the people of Hong Kong (n.香港), says Hong Kong and Macao (n.澳門) Affairs Office director (n.主任) Wang Guangya (n.
He spelled out (v.清楚提出) three musts (n.必需的事物) for the next leader. "The next chief executive should love the country and Hong Kong," he said in Beijing (n.北京).
"Second, he or she should have a high level of abilities to govern (v.管治) Hong Kong, as a highly developed city, and let the economy thrive.
"Of course, he cannot solely (adv.完全地) rely on one person but must have a team.
"But as the chief executive, he or she has to be an iconic figure (n.人物).
"Third, I think he or she should be someone who is rather (adv.相當地) highly accepted in Hong Kong society. The one elected (v.選出) should be widely accepted."
China (n.中國) watcher (n.觀察員) Johnny Lau Yui-siu (n.劉銳紹) said as Wang considers public acceptance one of the requisites (n.必要條件) of the next Hong Kong leader, it shows Beijing       obviously (adv.明顯地) hopes to clear the impression that the chief executive election (n.選舉) is a "small-circle (adj.小圈子的) game" in which only 1,200 Election Committee (n.選舉委員會)       members can cast (v.投票) their votes.
      (The Standard, July 12)

      解讀:heed即take notice of、pay careful attention to,可作名詞或動詞,在標題中是名詞,常見句式是take heed of,此外,也可說give / pay heed to;此字作動詞時及物,例如take heed of his warning(聽從他的警告)也可說作heed his warning。
      2. iconic (adj) /a?
      3. must (n) /m?
