CANADA'S BIRTHDAY Canada's birthday is July 1st. On that day in 1867 the British North America Act (BNA) became law. It divided the power between the central (or federal) government and the first four provinces: Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Ontario and Quebec.
      The BNA Act states that each province will have its own government, and that each government would unite under a strong federal government. The “Fathers of Confederation”, who wrote the BNA Act, believed that the country would become stronger by being united. The dates when the other provinces joined this union are: Manitoba 1870 British Columbia 1871 Prince Edward       Island 1873 Saskatchewan 1905 Newfoundland 1949. Sir John A. Macdonald became the first Prime Minister of Canada on July 1st, 1867. We call this day Canada Day and celebrate it as a holiday each year.
      Note: Confederation refers to the joining together of provinces under a central government. The Constitution contains the basic rules and principles that determine the powers and duties of the government and gurantees certain rights to the people of a country.

      七月一日是加拿大的國慶日，在1867年七月一日《英屬北美法安》（BNA）正式通過成為法律，該法案將權力分配與中央政府，（即聯邦政府）和最初的四個省份，即新斯高沙省、紐賓士域省、安大略省和魁北克省。 
     《英屬北美法安》訂明每個省份各有其政府，而各省政府則在一強而有力的聯邦政府下建立聯盟。當時撰寫這個法案的人被稱為“聯盟之父”，他們相信各省聯盟能令國家更為強盛。其他省份加入這個聯盟的日期如下：緬尼吐巴省 1870；卑詩省 1871；愛得華王子島 1873；沙省 1905；亞爾伯特省（亞省）1905；紐芬蘭省 1949。
      一八六七年七月一日約翰?狺麥克唐納爵士成為加拿大第一任總理。這一日被稱為“加拿大日”，每年在這個節日裏我們都會慶祝國慶。
　　註：聯盟指各省結盟成立一中央政府。憲法裏包括界定政府權力和責任的基本原則。此外，憲法亦保證國民享有一些基本的權利。
