HOW TO SAVE ON FOOD
( 2011-05-20 )

When you first come to Canada, you may find that many food items seem to be quite expensive. Here are some ideas that may help you cut the cost of your grocery bills.
First, check the grocery advertising flyers for items on sale. Most supermarkets and stores in your neighbourhood regularly send flyers to your home. Watch for the bargains of the week. When perishable foods (e.g. fruit, vegetables and meat) are on sale, many people purchase large quantities and store them in their deep freezers for future use. This is a good cost-saver. A second way of saving money is to do bulk buying. Bulk foods are generally sold at a lower price. A third way of economizing is to look for generic or house brand products, which are usually less expensive. In addition to these ideas, a very effective way for you to save money is to take advantage of coupons. Coupons can come directly in the mail or can be found in advertising materials. You will be amazed how much money you can save with these coupons.
For those of you who enjoy eating out, you may want to buy a book of coupons which will enable you to buy meals at a discount. These coupon books are usually sold at the beginning of the year by non-profit organizations, such as churches and schools.
