Mario Vargas Llosa

      Peruvian (n.秘魯人) Mario Vargas Llosa (n.略薩), one of the most acclaimed (adj.受讚譽的) writers in the Spanish(n.西班牙語)-speaking world, has been awarded the 2010 Nobel (n.諾貝爾(獎)) Prize for literature (n.文學).
      The Swedish (adj.瑞典的) Academy (n.學院) hailed (v.讚揚) "his cartography (n.描繪) of structures of power" and "trenchant (adj.鮮明的) images (n.意象) of the individual's resistance (n.抗爭), revolt (n.反叛), and defeat (n.挫折)."
      The 74-year-old has written more than 30 novels (n.小說), plays (n.劇作) and essays (n.文章).
      The Swedish Academy's Peter Englund (n.英格倫) said Vargas Llosa was "a divinely (adv.非凡地) gifted (adj.天賦的) story-teller (n.講故事的人)," whose writing touched (v.感動) the reader.
      Born in the town of Arequipa (n.阿雷基帕), Vargas Llosa took Spanish (adj.西班牙的) nationality (n.國籍) in 1993 - three years after an unsuccessful bid (n.競逐) for the Peruvian (adj.秘魯的) presidency (n.總統職位).
      The writer's international breakthrough (n.突破) came with the 1960s novel The Time of The Hero (n.西班牙原名是La ciudad y los perros，即《城市與狗》) which built on his experiences at the Peruvian military (adj.軍事的) academy (n.專科學校), Leoncio Prado (n.萊昂西奧?狺普拉多).
