The pastor (n.牧師) of a Florida (n.（美國）佛羅里達州) church says his congregation (n.教堂會眾) has decided to call off (v.取消) the burning of the Quran (n.《古蘭經》) that was to be held       Saturday - the ninth anniversary (n.周年紀念) of the September 11, 2001 attack on the United States (n.美國) by the al Qaeda (n.“阿爾蓋達”) terror (n.恐怖主義) network.
      "We will definitely (adv.肯定地) not burn the Quran," the Rev. (n.牧師) Terry Jones (n.鐘斯) told NBC(n.（美國）全國廣播公司)'s "Today " on Saturday. "Not today, not ever."
      Jones arrived in New York (n.紐約) late Friday night and was working to set up (v.安排) a meeting with the imam (n.伊瑪目) in charge of the Islamic (adj.伊斯蘭（教）的) center planned near ground zero (n.原爆點、世貿原址). The planned meeting, Jones had said, helped persuade him to halt (v.停止) the burning.
      Earlier Friday, Jones gave mixed messages about whether he intends to carry out his plans, which have sparked (v.引發) international controversy (n.爭議) and protests in the Muslim (adj.伊斯蘭的) world. U.S. (n.美國) military leaders said the event would imperil (v.危及) the lives of troops (n.軍人) abroad.
      President (n.總統) Obama (n.奧巴馬) said Friday that the idea that "we would burn the sacred (adj.神聖的) texts (n.典籍) of someone else's religion is contrary to what this country stands for (v.主張)."
