( 2010-09-17 )

Claims (n.指稱) that the third edition (n.版) of the Oxford (n.牛津) English Dictionary (n.《牛津英語詞典》) will never appear in print (n.印刷) have been dismissed (v.否認) by Oxford University Press (n.
According to The Sunday Times (n.《星期日泰晤士報》), staff (n.員工) had been told that the third edition, due (adj.預計的) for completion in a decade(n.十年)'s time, would never be published as a book and would be published online (adv.在網上) instead (adv.卻).
But OUP (n.牛津大學出版社) told The Oxford Mail (n.郵報) last night that no decision had been taken.
Eighty lexicographers (n.詞典編纂者) at OUP's Walton (n.沃爾頓) Street offices are currently (adv.現時) preparing the third edition. The first edition was published in 1928 and the 20-volume (n.冊) second edition followed in 1989.
OUP spokesman (n.發言人) Anna Baldwin (n.波德溫) said: "It's likely (adj.可能的) to be more than a decade before the full edition is published and a decision on format (n.形式) will be taken at that point (n. The third edition of the OED (n.《牛津英語詞典》) is 28 per cent complete."
She added: "Demand for online (adj.網上的) resources is growing but large numbers of people continue to buy dictionaries in printed (adj.印刷的) form and we have no plans to stop publishing       print (adj.印刷的) dictionaries."
      (The Oxford Times, August 30)

      2. mail (n) /me?
      3. lexicographer (n) / leks?
