Former (adj.前任的) Indonesian (adj.印尼的) President Suharto (n.蘇哈托), who died on Sunday at the age of 86, has been buried in a state (n.國家) funeral.

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (n.蘇西諾) oversaw (v.監督) the ceremony at the Suharto family mausoleum (n.陵墓) near the city of Solo (n.梭羅市).

Suharto, who ruled Indonesia (n.印尼) for more than three decades (n.十年), was credited (v.歸功) with leading his country from poverty to relative development.

But he was dogged (v.困擾) by allegations (n.指控) of corruption (n.貪污), political repression (n.鎮壓) and serious human rights (n.人權) abuses (n.侵犯).

He was ousted (v.革職) by mass protests (n.示威) in 1998 and in recent years suffered from poor health - one of the reasons why he never faced trial (n.審訊).

"His death is a tragedy for all the victims (n.受害者) of his crimes, they will never get justice (n.公義)," said a person who was jailed as a student activist.

"He is a perfect criminal - he can be put up there with Pol Pot (n.波爾布特) and Hitler (n.希特拉)."

Brad Adams (n.亞當斯), Asia (n.亞洲) director of the New York(n.紐約)-based (adj.總部設在……的) NGO (n.非政府組織) Human Rights Watch (n.“人權觀察”), said Suharto had "gotten away with (v.逍遙法外) murder - another dictator (n.獨裁者) who's lived out his life in luxury and escaped justice".
